No Comments Uncategorized

The New Adelphi Club is enlisting the help of local bands to add their details to the club’s webpage as part of the #Adelphi30 Anniversary celebrations.

In association with The Warren Project, which helps to support young people into music, local musicians and bands are being encouraged to use the Local Bands page https://www.theadelphi.com/local/ as a platform to increase their regional and national profile.

On October 1st 2014 The Adelphi Club in Hull will celebrate 30 years as a small underground live music venue. A steadfast member of this scene since 1984, and recently listed in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide 2015, the venue, alongside its brother and sister venues dotted around the UK (King Tut’s, The Leadmill etc.) has provided a platform for the careers of bands such as Radiohead, Stone Roses, Pulp, Primal Scream, Oasis, The Housemartins, Green Day, Pavement, The Manics, Inspirals, My Bloody Valentine to name just a few.

Sowden & Sowden, amongst a production team of ‘friends of the Adelphi’ are helping the world famous New Adelphi Club to host a major headline act at the forthcoming 30th celebrations, with local band, The Black Delta Movement, chosen from the many talented acts that played The Bridge Stage at the recent Freedom Festival.

Paul Jackson, owner of The New Adelphi Club, commented: “I’m immensely proud of the fact that the Adelphi has interacted positively in the lives of young local people over the decades. It’s also great that this still happens through the offices of local heroes such as Stew Baxter, who probably himself started at The Adelphi.”

Local bands are encouraged to be as creative as possible with their submissions, with images, video and YouTube/Soundcloud links accepted. Local bands; Breeze, Coaves, MyOneManBand, Pearl’s Cab Ride, Sordid Lies have already listed their details on the page.

Polly Sowden of Sowden & Sowden, commented: “This is a free opportunity for local bands to help build their online profile to a wider audience, to work with the club as part of the upcoming 30th celebrations but with a lasting legacy way beyond. The New Adelphi Club has, and will continue to provide a platform for talent of all levels to perform in a non-judgemental environment.”

Described as a catalyst for the creation and development of original ideas, The Adelphi is a creative community which has proved a significant cultural breeding ground and haunt for bands, in addition to designers, poets, actors and comedians. The environment of The New Adelphi Club affords artists the opportunity to try new things and form friendships that last a lifetime.

Stew Baxter, of The Warren said: “The Adelphi and The Warren are very similar in that both thrive on working with young people. Since Adelphi began they have championed emerging artists. As a young person my dream was to play at The Adelphi. If music is your religion, Adelphi is your church, so it’s great to work with Paul Jackson on this.”

Two tickets per night will be offered to two young people from The Warren. The winners will assist with the PR on the night of each event, as well as assist and support backstage.

Local bands wishing to be a part of the page should submit written profiles of less than 150 words accompanied by a band image, soundtrack and/or video to hello@sowden-sowden.co.uk
