A few words from Mr Paul Jackson (The Adelphi)
“I love This Is The Kit, & it is not solely down to the fact that they are so lovely to work with. Our oh so talented patron Kate, along with the equally talented 4 musicians who accompany her, (I include the hidden, but very important Jesse Vernon who first played The Adelphi with The Moonflowers in the early 90’s) in many ways mirror all the principles and integrity that I have tried to maintain at the club over the years. They did it their way! TITK first played The Adelphi in (I think) 2008. After numerous gigs and (is it) six albums, to me it was just wonderful to see them topping the album charts towards the end of 2020. For sure, we had played our small part in this success. However the overriding feature of this success was that this was the triumph of the independent spirit in music; the artist in music, and music as an art form, which is not to forget a lot of hard work. Along the way they will have had to learn some business skills that would not come naturally. They will have sought advice and involvement from trusted sources in an industry in which many cannot be trusted. TITK must have evolved a very effective bullshit detector during the course of their journey. Today they are on a great UK label with sympathetic management and agent. I hope life is feeling good for Kate, Rozi, Neil, Jamie & Jesse because their achievements in the current musical landscape are enormous.
As anyone who uses The Adelphi will know, I love the music of this band. Onstage The Adelphi and This Is The Kit feel like the perfect fit. All of their albums have been distinctly great and all seem to evolve from the last. TITK music also involves the essential characteristics of modern albums in that they both take you to a different place, and can be listened to as single pieces of uninterrupted music. This is a good band. Onstage the band create their own ambience which flows like a warm wave over the audience. I’m a great watcher of audience responses and This Is The Kit tick many boxes, be it hearing a pin drop, hair on the back of the neck, the odd tears, (not because they’ve wasted their entrance money) and adults and kids with their mouths wide open. I really hope this show goes well, and that if you haven’t seen them before you might give it a go. The band don’t need to play The Adelphi anymore, and are doing it because they love the place.
