Hull band sign MOGWAI record deal.

No Comments Uncategorized

We’re delighted to share the news that Hull’s bdrmm [bedroom] have signed a record deal with Rock Action Records, the Glasgow-based independent record label founded and maintained by Scottish rock band Mogwai. The news follows a year of intensive touring and a string of successful tour dates supporting Mogwai around the UK.

The band’s debut album ‘BEDROOM’ received critical acclaim (5 stars) NME “The Hull five-piece have channelled the emotional turmoil around growing up into a modern shoegaze classic”. A UK tour support with RIDE followed by more acclaimed releases on Sonic Cathedral.

Everyone at The Adelphi would like congratulate ‘roomers’ Ryan, Jordan, Joe and Conor on their well deserved success.

A delighted Paul Jackson commented “I loved BDRMM from the first time I saw them. I was almost grateful for them! Within a band scene it is possible for too many bands to be drinking from the same pools of inspiration. To be competing only with each other, and totally oblivious to any need to stand out & have something of their own. From day 1 & to these ears, & without reinventing the wheel BDRMM would plough their own furrow. To suddenly find themselves sharing stages with some of the finest musicians from one of our finest musical cities is very much what fairytales are made of in music. I would have loved watching some of the BDRMM faces whilst watching Mogwai for the first time.”

Grassroots venues often play a crucial role in the development of fledgling artists. Way back in ’84 The Adelphi was used as the rehearsal space and testing ground by The Housemartins. Fatboy Slim explained how The Adelphi stage was where he began his trade when interviewed in the IVW film. Phil Selway (Radiohead) records his memories when Radiohead were just a ‘shaky’ pub band.

bdrmm are one of a current select of local bands nurtured by The Adelphi. Alongside local heroes LIFE (The Neat), Low Hummer (La Bête Blooms), bdrmm have enjoyed the support, facilities and belief afforded by The Adelphi in the infancy of their careers.  – (My band wants to play at The Adelphi)
