We are taking part in NewFest along with ten other independent businesses in the Newland Avenue area. Each business is putting on events throughout the day to offer the community something to do on a random Saturday in August.

We’re bringing you an evening of spectacular sounds and spectacular lights with some fantastic local, and not so local musicians… all for a fiver (or £8 which will cover your entry fee and your first drink).

Marina Moore **NOT TO BE MISSED**

“My album ’Baroque Era’ was released in 2025 with Patchworks Label and I have been performing solo gigs with the music from it using violin, viola, looper pedals, soundscapes and a Korg microkorg. In 2025 I played and arranged all the strings for the recently released ‘Black Phone 2’ film, compositions by Atticus Derrickson. I also composed a piece called ‘Dusk’ for the Main Stage at the Royal Ballet & Opera House, Covent Garden for the choreographer Joseph Toonga performed on theEncounters: Four Contemporary Ballets in 2024 from October 22nd to November 16th. In 2023, I performed violin, viola and backing vocals for Peter Gabriel’s i/o tour around Europe, UK, the United States and Canada. I recorded solo strings for Brian Eno’s most recent album ‘FOREVERANDNOMORE’ and solo viola for his 2022 installation in Trentino. Since 2016, I have been recording and touring with Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music playing violin, viola, keys and washboard. Other projects I have worked on include London Studio Centre, Ebbb, Mara Carlyle, Birdy, Anthony Coleman, Bright Eyes, and orchestral sessions at Abbey Road Studios and AIR Studios. I have been playing in the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden since 2015 and previously at the Palau De Les Arts Reina Sofia Opera House in Valencia. Trained as a violinist and violist, I completed my undergraduate studies at the Royal College of Music in London and my Masters Degree and Graduate Diploma at the New England Conservatory in Boston.”

Electrofurnace + Gary Hammond

A local electronic duo comprising sonic explorers Martin Beadle and Dan Cross – they do magical things with synths, guitars, and whatever else they can get their hands on. Legendary percussionist Gary Hammond is joining them for a one off jam so this is going to be pretty spectacular. Gary is a percussionist who hits, shakes, whacks and generally makes a racket with as many instruments as he can. His collection of instruments come from all over the world and are very easy to play. They are used for grooves and rhythm work or as sound scales to accompany poems, stories and songs. He’s played and recorded with pretty much everyone, including The Beautiful South, The Hut People, Nina Simone, and many others and has been a familiar face around The Adelphi for many, many years. In recent years he’s been working on all sorts of projects including Convergence with Joseph Cox… occasionally you’ll find him tapping along to Balkan and Turkish beats with Dave Rotheray who he definitely isn’t married to.

The Dyr Sister

Combining contemporary folk with post-hiphop and electronic music genres the Dyr Sisters songs are delivered with driving percussive beats via a backdrop of strings and layered with haunting and ethereal vocal harmonies. This is a devastatingly beautiful expression of what it means to be alive and kicking and still telling tales in these bleak times. Sally Currie is a partially deaf multi-instrumentalist who has an extensive history writing and performing original music with bands and solo. As a solo artist she has performed her work all over the UK, from the smallest venue such as Folk in a Box (with a capacity of 1) to events such as Unlimited Festival at the South Bank Centre. In between she has shared billings with artists such as Laetitia Sadier (Stereloab), Brix & The Extricated, Curtis Eller and This is The Kit. In 2019 she formed a band and was also awarded one of the Drake Music emergent commissions. She composed a song which was set to moving image. This was a collaboration with the artist and animator, Anna Bean. In 2021 Sally was awarded Sound and Musics Composer Curator and did another, larger scale production with Anna. This was an immersive theatrical iteration of The Dyr Sister entitled ‘Fairytales for the Modern Gentleman’ Anna worked with Digital Projection Mapper, Ed Grimoldby and theater practitioners to create a life size diorama, centered around the bands music. We did 8 shows in a pop up gallery space down Humber Street in Hull in October 2021. This was in partnership with Back to Ours and with the support of Hull Jazz Festival Kickstarter fund.
