A dark fable for our times…
ESTATE is a dystopian model village experience featuring four abandoned concrete tower blocks at 1:24 scale (approx 2 metres high) housed in a 40ft shipping container. The tower blocks each serve a different function in the ESTATE and contain amusing scenes of mass social, economic and environmental devastation. Jimmy Cauty’s ESTATE has been installed in a shipping container so it’s easy to move and deploy.
MdZ ESTATE TOUR by Jimmy Cauty is at The New Adelphi Club, 89 De Grey Street, Hull, HU5 2RU.
It’s unmissable – It’s for all ages – It’s at The Adelphi – It’s free !!
Following the world exclusive launch in Stoke-on-Trent in October, we are delighted to host the MdZ ESTATE TOUR in Hull as part of a UK Tour. The follow-up to the world famous ADP RIOT TOUR sees artist Jimmy Cauty present ESTATE, an interactive, multi-media touring artwork comprising of four concrete tower blocks built at 1:24 scale and displayed in a 40ft shipping container. It is in many ways a continuation of the ADP Riot Tour.
Each tower block is 17 floors high (approx. 2 metres) with meticulously crafted derelict interiors – some with lights, toilets and tiny TVs playing looped public information broadcasts. One tower block is dedicated to residential and light industrial Live Work Die units, another is a children’s prison, the third a high-rise residential care home, and the last appears to have functioned as a pagan religious centre. They are all empty and no one knows what happened to the inhabitants.
The container has three operating modes: LOCKDOWN, STANDBY and FULL ENGLISH
The aim is to tour ESTATE across the UK to areas outside the typically well-provisioned centres, working with independently-run spaces, to reach audiences beyond the confines of galleries, to engage with local communities, bring joy and encourage creative critical discourse.
“Jimmy Cauty comes from a generation of disruptive artists that actually has something to say. In an age where mass media has blurred the lines between art and propaganda, Cauty still creates a relevant ideological message, along with visuals that talk to most of the visitors to his exhibitions”. P C Robinson
After his successful installation at Banksy’s Dismaland, Jimmy toured ‘ADP’ (Aftermath Dislocation Principle – visiting The Adelphi in 2016), an ambitious post-riot landscape.
ESTATE is amazing. Don’t Miss it !!!
ESTATE is free to view but booking is essential. Go to the eventbrite website at the link below to book your viewing slot.
For those too young to know, James Cauty is an ‘artist and cultural provocateur’. He had a number of chart hits as the founder of The KLF but is best remembered for the implementation of the The K-Foundation and the burning of a ‘Million Quid’ (1994).
