The Guru Guru have been happily dealing in Borderline Rock. Imagine: lead vocals wearing a multicolored strait-jacket, haunted by feverish guitars and a tormented rhythm section.
While influences are drawn from the likes of METZ, Pere Ubu, Deerhoof, The Jesus Lizard, The Mars Volta & Andy Kaufman, the indie-math- psycho-noise rulebook is torn apart, resulting in erratic songs that somehow seem to develop into wriggling earworms.
Praised for their live performances, THE GURU GURU is a must-see… With palpable, electric energy oozing from the stage, vocalist Tom Adriaenssens balances on the verge of theatrical psychosis. Touring highlights include: ArcTanGent (UK), Portals (UK), Ment (SLO), Monkey Week (ESP), Rock Herk (BE), Sziget (HU), Pukkelpop (BE) , etc… They played +- 200 domestic and international shows (France, Spain, UK, Reunion Island, Germany, Switzerland, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia) in the last 3 years.
After releasing a promising EP, 7 inch, 10 inch (split record with fierce trio Brutus), their debut album ‘PCHEW’ (which recently sold out) and their 2nd full album ‘POINT FINGERS’ (mixed by David Bottrill), the band releases a new double EP. An EP with 4 new songs and 4 live songs from the ‘Point Fingers’ album. The EP will be available on vinyl with on the A-side the EP ‘It’s a (Doggy Dog) World’ and on the B-side the EP ‘Live in Antwerp’. ‘It’s a (Doggy Dog) World’ will also be released digitally. Because of the Covid-19 crisis the band has
lost its ‘Point Fingers’ momentum. A few days after their release shows Belgium went into lockdown. With this double EP they want to get the album back into the spotlight.
After the release of their 2nd full album ‘POINT FINGERS’ and the loss of their built up momentum because of the Covid-19 crisis, the band wants to show the world that they won’t be discouraged. The Guru Guru strikes back with new songs that wriggle themselves into your ears and live songs taken from the ‘Point Fingers’ album to try and forget the past year as fast as possible.
In the past year The Guru Guru has worked very hard to realize this new double EP. They took matters into their own hands and recorded the EP in their own studio (Farrm studio). Guitarist Emiel Van Den Abbeele mixed the double EP. On this EP you can hear the band experimenting with industrial sounds and spaces. Bass player Brent Mijnendonckx records the sound of heavy machinery at the factory he works at, samples it and then uses his magical sound design skills. This way the band takes a next step into their musical journey. They keep on pushing and scouring their boundaries. Nothing is impossible.
+ My Octopus Mind
My Octopus Mind are a high-energy experimental psych-rock band From Bristol (UK) They take a tongue in cheek ride through post-punk swagger and dysfunction, wonky riffs, Balkan rhythms and moments of haunting grace.
“My Octopus Mind are a Quartet comprised of drum kit, two guitars, vocals, synth and heavily effected double bass. They’re currently gearing up for a Summer 2023 release of their new album ‘Trying to be Normal’, a playful collection of fresh post-pandemic material that marks a turning point in the band’s sound. It is powerful, silly, imminently danceable, and unlike anything else.”
“Beefheart-esque, abstract whimsy” – total ROCK
“A warped and psychedelic vibe with hints of King Gizzard” – Mystic Sons
“Full throttle look at the current social and political climate”
