Mahuki is an Edinburgh-based fusion project led by Czech-born guitarist Honza Kourimsky. In his music, he combines jazz with Eastern European folk music and progressive rock to musically explore the spiritual elements of the human experience. He uses his captivating showmanship, extensive performing experience, and unique composition style to facilitate this cutting-edge, jazz fusion outfit.

The band performs a unique form of energetic jazz which showcases phenomenal instrumental skill and improvisational ability. The repertoire is played by some of the most promising musicians from the Scottish jazz scene who have graced the iconic stages of venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, Jazz FM, BBC Radio Scotland, and The New Morning in Paris.

Kourimsky launched Mahuki in December 2022 by hosting a live recording and filming of the band’s debut album LIVE FROM THE LIVING ROOM SET. This sold-out session caught the attention of the Edinburgh Music Scene and set the band up for an exciting and fully booked 2023. The resulting 9-track album was released in April 2023 as a lead-up to the band’s debut UK Tour and subsequently received support from indie and global radio stations alike. Their debut single release “Immediacy” was featured on Nu Jazz Sounds and NESS RADIO (FR), whilst “Insight in Sight” played on BBC Radio Scotland and The Face Radio (USA).

In the late spring and summer of 2023, the band toured the UK to showcase the album, performing at venues such as Peggy’s Skylight , The Blue Lamp and the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival. These events inspired the writing of new material for the band’s second album GRATITUDE which the band recorded in September 2023.

To conclude the year, Mahuki got back on the road with a 4-date tour around England and Scotland. The headline show was held at the Mash House in Edinburgh, where the band presented as special expanded edition of the outfit. The showcase included a 3-part string section led by Marena Salerno Collins (Vox Rea).
