Dick Gaughan
Scottish musician, guitarist, singer, songwriter, composer and record producer. Ex-member of ‘The Boys Of The Lough’ and founder member of ‘Five Hand Reel’, and the 1990’s Scottish super-group ‘Clan Alba’, Dick has a unique solo style and tours constantly throughout the world.

Brought up immersed in the musical traditions and culture of the Gaels, both Scots and Irish, Dick Gaughan has been a professional musician and singer since January 1970, and made his first solo album in 1971, No More Forever. In December 2009, Dick was honoured by being inducted into the Scots Trad Music Hall of Fame and he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from BBC Radio 2.

“A truly masterful performer” – Folk Roots.

“the sheer energy of Dick Gaughan in full flow is startling” – Ram Folk Club.

“He has one of the finest and most sublime voices on the planet, capable of capturing the heart with the most tender of traditional ballads in one moment and stirring the fire of the spirit with his uncompromising commentary on social injustice in the next . . . an unforgettable artist, able to change the way that you think and feel through the power of music” – Appleseed Recordings

Jim Page was born in California in 1949 and grew up into the 1960’s in the San Francisco Bay Area. The music and artistic experimentation of those days left a lasting impression on him. The politics and social awareness was a part of everything that was going on and it has stayed that way in Jim’s music ever since.

In 1971 he headed for Seattle, where last folk club closed soon after he arrived and Jim took the whole town to be his stage. In 1974, after being threatened with arrest, Jim took on the Seattle city government and legalized street performing. It was a landmark case and Seattle is now a famous city for buskers of all styles.

And 2007 Jim was included in an all star cast of the “50 most Influential Musicians In Seattle History,” a position shared with Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana. To date. Jim’s songs have been covered by The Doobie Brothers, Christy Moore, The Moving Hearts, Dick Gaughan, Roy Bailey, David Soul, Leftover Salmon, and Michael Hedges. He has received awards from Artist Trust and Jack Straw Productions. His music has been included on ,many compilations, including the Grammy Nominated “Best Of Broadside.”

‘Jim’s been writing great topical songs for as long as I can remember, bringing his acute wit and wry humour to a host of subjects that can really use both. In the tradition of Woody and Dylan, he cuts right to the heart with music you actually enjoy listening to. I’m a longtime admirer.’ – BONNIE RAITT
