Independent Venue Week presents
The Adelphi’s new theatre company in residence

Pub Corner Poets to Slam the Adelphi.
Legendary Hull venue The Adelphi and it’s new theatre group in residence The Pub Corner Poets celebrate the first show in their collaboration by inviting all comers to take part in the Pub Corner Poets Slam. Either as poet, or judge.

Under the rules of the poetry slam each performer has just three minutes to wow the judges in each round. Not only with the content of the poem, but with their delivery and performance. The field is slimmed down until only three remain. Last time the PCP hosted a slam in 2014, Oli Strong was crowned champion , beating 14 others to the title. This time around he will be your host and compere, as the cream of Hull’s poetry talent compete for the 2016 title.

Anyone interested can sign up to perform, but even if you don’t fancy getting up on stage, you’re still needed. The big difference this time around is that the Pub Corner Poets have not invited any judges. Except YOU and their decibel meter. And It doesn’t matter if you don’t know your Wordsworth from your Shakespeare or if you think Kate Tempest is the latest storm to batter the UK, this isn’t the poetry you studied at school. This is passion, heart and performance.
The contest kicks off at 8pm and entry is £3. The live house band on the night will be Love Juice.

The Pub Corner Poet’s collaboration with the Adelphi will see them hosting events at the De Grey St venue throughout the year. Everything from theatre to music to poetry will be on the agenda.
