Independent Venue Week presents

Mark Morriss + LIFE Phobophobes

Mark Morriss

Mark Morriss is a singer songwriter who famously made his name fronting English indie outfit The Bluetones. Mark fronted the four piece over a successful and fruitful 15 year period, scoring 14 top ten singles and 3 top ten albums, whilst touring the UK, Europe and Japan. At the back end of 2011 the decision was made to disband The Bluetones, resulting in a shock farewell tour. Hordes of loyal Bluetones fans turned out in their thousands to give the band they called their own, a fond and sad farewell.

A case of unfinished business, Mark Morriss has now turned his attentions to his solo career. After releasing ‘Memory Muscle ‘ in 2008, Mark has since penned material for a new record. Due for an Autumn release, early demos recorded with long standing Producer, Gordon Mills (Ed Sheeran/Newton Faulkner) have sparked great excitement from fans and industry a-like.

LIFE

Fresh from making Radio 1’s best of BBC Introducing list 2015 Hull punks LIFE announce new single Popular Music the follow up to last year’s radio smash GoGoGo which saw the band being spun feverishly on Radio 1 and 6 Music thanks to hand-picked plays by Huw Stephens and Steve Lamacq. With Popular Music the band have made a record that comments on the dirty state of modern populist culture with lyrical satire and pop sensibility. Proud of their working roots and refusing to be bottled the band continue their ‘do it yourself’ journey, which last year saw them play over 50 shows including highlights such as The Great Escape, Leeds and Reading Festival, Swn and Dot 2 Dot as well as supports with Palma Violets, Twin Peaks and Meat Wave, with a UK tour in support of Independent Venue Week in late January. During the tour LIFE will also be running free workshops for young musicians in each city as a way of reaching out, sharing their own experiences and ideas to help encourage creativity. Stuck in an industry dominated by co-writes and privilege LIFE aim to bring something authentic, relevant and refreshing to the party.
